Discover what keeps your business running, and what could hold it back.
Eighteen questions based on recent events in your company. No records, registration, or preparation required.
Your result identifies the first of three business areas worth verifying and shows you the record that could test it. It does not grade or diagnose the company.

What is the Contractor Control Self-Check?
The BuildLogIQ Contractor Control Self-Check is a free, 18-question look at how your company operates across three connected areas.
Each question asks you to think about something that happened recently: a finished job, a change order, a late invoice, a key person's absence, or another real event. You answer from memory. You don't need to open or upload any records.
This isn't a personality test, an audit, or a grade. It doesn't compare your company with other contractors or claim to prove how your business performs in every situation.
Instead, it helps you see:
- Where the company appears to have a working routine
- Where the business may depend on memory or owner involvement
- What you aren't yet sure about
- Which area is worth verifying first
There are no trick questions. If you don't know an answer, choose “I'm not sure.” Uncertainty isn't treated as failure. It's shown separately as something worth clearing up.
We ran them on our own construction company first.
Ryan Yang co-founded BuildLogIQ and runs Tryangle Construction, a residential general contractor in Orange County. We test our methods there against real job records before we ask another contractor to answer anything.
That matters because the first version of these questions asked how well things worked. Owners answered honestly and the answers were still wrong, because a contractor who is leaving money unbilled will tell you his billing is fine. He isn't lying. He doesn't know.
So every question now asks about one specific thing that already happened. The last job you finished. The last change that got approved. The last time a key person was out. You either remember what happened or you don't, and both answers are useful.
We used my construction company, Tryangle Construction, to build and test this process against a real operating company, not a theory. It helped us identify issues that were hiding in plain sight: things we had learned to work around but had never stopped to examine. That's what makes the process useful. It shows contractors what daily familiarity can make difficult to see.

Can you see what is happening early enough to act?
Are important controls tracked, assigned, and completed?
Does work keep moving without getting lost or returning to you?
Your result identifies the first area to verify and shows any uncertainty worth clearing up. It raises a useful question about the company. It doesn't make a diagnosis.
What are the benefits of the Contractor Control Self-Check?
You can't strengthen what you can't clearly see. The Contractor Control Self-Check helps you step back from the day-to-day work and consider how your company actually operates.
Practical help for owner-led contractors.
BuildLogIQ helps owner-led contractors understand how their companies operate across Market Positioning & Money, Risk & Compliance, and People & Operations.
We focus on evidence, clear business routines, and practical next steps, not generic advice or unnecessary complexity.
The free Contractor Control Self-Check is designed to help you see where to look first. The paid Control Review goes further by testing each area against a selected company record.
A strong company isn't one the owner can explain. It's one the business can prove, in its work, its records, and what keeps moving when the owner steps away. This self-check helps you find the first place worth verifying.
Randall Yang, Co-Founder and CEO, BuildLogIQ18 questions. One at a time.
Think about the most recent time each situation happened. Choose the answer closest to what was true then. Use what you remember. You don't need to open or upload a record.
Your answers reflect recent events you recall. They don't prove how the company operates in every situation.

Being unsure isn't a problem with the company. It's a question worth asking someone who would know.
This is what you wrote. It isn't a BuildLogIQ finding and it didn't affect the result.
Now test one answer against a record.
You don't send us anything. Go find the record named above, look at it, and see whether it says what you expected. That two-minute difference between what you remember and what the paper shows is the whole reason the paid Control Review exists.
